Absolutely devastating.

Did you guys see Malachi Fields made a tackle on punt coverage? Second quarter just before the Jevon Holland peanut punch fumble. Fuckin’ gunned down the returner at the 6 yard line after a diesel punt from Stout. Guess he’s a gunner for us. Pretty neat.

I liked the adjustments we made in the second half in terms of getting some pressure on Stafford. Run defense was absolutely porous in the second half though so for whatever that’s worth. First half was simply not a cohesive effort from our overall pass defense, particularly the secondary, but I think the vibes were basically immediately ruined for the entire team by then so honestly everyone kind of gets a pass on this one.

I know that’s a soft take, and it’s inexcusable, and blah blah, but cmon. The air left the sideline halfway through the first drive. A couple of signs of life towards the end of the first half but this was over immediately. The secondary was banged up going into this game and they got exposed. We didn’t expect to lose QB1. Plain and simple. We’re about to hit a stretch of 4 cakewalk teams but we need to be better on defense if we’re going to be able to turn them into wins. I trust we will be.

*Sigh*

Alright fine I’ll talk about it.

Dart looked jumpy from the start. We saw Likely make a great one handed catch on 3rd down (3rd and Likely 😔✊) on a ball that Dart flat out put behind him. It would have been a clean missed ball on third down if Likely isn’t such a legend and one hands that ball off his face, but he does it and we move on.

That’s not what tipped me off though. A play or two before that, Dart gets under center and I’m pretty sure he changed the play twice before getting the snap off just in time. Joe Buck said something like “well that seemed casual.” Like legit the second play of the game maybe. This is where I should have film access. Might need to pay for access.

I think it was twice because there was some sort of initial communication up and down the line, followed by a “can can” from Dart and then he called the second audible. We ended up running the ball for like 3 yards. Ho-hum, I know, but stay with me.

I think it was the type of thing where Dart was told “if you see them line up in this type of front on the D Line - we can check to this play.” He doesn’t have to, but we can. Or maybe it was more of “don’t run this play into that particular front” and that’s why there was a need for an audible in the first place, but it was the wrong one. Either way. This type of check happens all the time and is shit you learn in high school ball - or at least you do in certain elite non-public group: B programs across northeast NJ.

Anywhom, I think there was also some sort of caveat note on that instruction with the effect of “now if you see Aaron Donald lined up in that same look,,, don’t check into to that play, and instead we can run this other check, and/or the original play would be fine to stick with” - I’m thinking that was probably a specific thing about # 99. (I know this might be a little niche but I’m pretty sure is exactly what happened and I’ll tell you why it’s relevant).

So, either the first audible was some random wrong play and I am wrong about this (I doubt it), or in some way Dart got caught up in two notes that somehow contradicted each other against the same front (likely personnelle-related), and Dart had to discount double check to the correct look against that *specific* front after making an errant first audible. Regardless of whatever happened, that should have been one audible, and we move. It was the “check, wait no, uncheck” that got me nervous that HE was nervous. I was afraid that maybe tonight you make the wrong first audible because you’re a 23 year old quarterback who is rightfully scared shitless of Aaron Donald in a big game leading your 1-0 team against the pre-season Super Bowl champs on Monday night primetime in LA.

Two plays later he “misses” Likely. Uh oh. Yea we’re definitely a little jumpy. Couple plays later we lost any hope of competing in this game.

I don’t know if that factored into what happened, or how it might have gone tonight if any number of things leading up to the injury go a different way. This is just what happens some times. I don’t think it’s season ending. I don’t think we’re completely cooked. I do think however that Jameis Winston is not ready to take the field next week. It sucked. Tonight sucked.

Jordan Stout has an absolute piss missile hog of a leg. Short runway. 4th quarter. Standing in the back of his own end zone. 78 yard cock shot. Fuck your auntie upside down on a Monday night.

Dominic Zvada hits 50+ yarders in his spare time for fun without breaking a sweat. He does it to fuck with you because he likes how it makes you nervous before he does it. He’s a sick freak like that. My boy’s from like Transylvania or some shit. He might legitimately be a vampire.

Arvell Reese made himself known on my screen several times tonight. Some good, some not (in coverage). He’s a rookie.

I’m not sure what happened to Malik Nabers. I think he thought that the injury demon touched him and he got scared? Maybe he dislocated his shoulder and they popped it back in? Really looked like nothing.

Burns’ ankle didn’t look great. That would be a big loss. He hobbled off and hopefully will be fine.

Jevon Holland is a dog. Lots of heart out there from him.

I’m worried (in order) that:

  • Dart misses time

  • Our defense is bad

  • Burns misses time

  • We gave up tonight a little bit. That shit is a disease.

  • We showed clever plays in those first couple drives with Jameis that we would otherwise have executed with our starters - that is now on tape for other teams to see when we try to run it with our starters in the future. Specifically a fake swing pass to Nabers then slip screen to the opposite side to Skattebo. Jameis missed him. Timing was off.

We got hit in the heart tonight - no Damar Hamlin. Unfortunately, this was always a loss as predicted by your Oracle. I think if Dart plays honestly we probably still lose the way this defense performed but we will never know.

Just hope the kid is ok. We’re back next week keep the chin up.

*whispers: we start 8-2*
