So We Traded Dex

Going to be honest here, never in a million years did I think we would actually do it. It seems Dex was legitimately done with the Giants and truly wanted out. And ya know what? He had every right to want out. Do I now have to pivot and called him washed up and say that we totally fleeced the Bungholes and we’re going to be way better off without him? Yes. 100% yes I do. Do I actually believe that? Speculatively.

But look at what Dex has seen happen to his teammates in just the last 4 years.

  • Xavier McKinney - 2020 Giants draft pick (36th overall). Developed into an excellent safety on the Giants defense and when it came time to resign him the team only had money moves for Daniel Jones and Saquon. Goes to the Packers in 2024 and becomes an immediate first team all-pro (and again in 2025) and a 2025 pro-bowler. Alright well that seems to have worked out for him…speaking of Saquon…

  • Saquon Barkley - 2018 Giants draft pick (2nd overall) and we all know what happened here. Heart and soul of the Giants, was the entirety of our offense for like 3 seasons, leader, captain, everyone’s favorite player, etc. Leaves and becomes an immediate Super Bowl champion, OPOY, and has an nfl-record-breaking season with our hated division rivals. Say what you will now about the Eagles (who stink) but seems like leaving the Giants worked out pretty well for ol’ 26. Thank God we paid DJ though right?

  • Julian Love - 2019 Giants draft pick (108th overall), wasn’t “elite” for us but did everything that was asked of him (including changing positions, played safety and corner) and basically missed zero games with injuries as a starter for us. Reliable, dependable, versatile, key piece of the defense. Signs with Seattle in 2023 and becomes a pro-bowler and now a Super Bowl champion. Seems like leaving the Giants was perhaps the best thing that ever happened to his game?

If anyone deserves to be paid, isn’t it these guys? Shouldn’t we be rewarding and promoting talent in house instead of farming it out to the rest of the league? When we don’t, management shows the locker room their true colors. They don’t care about you and you should get your money by any means necessary.

(You can also probably add Leonard Williams to that list, and soon Wandale Robinson, and you can *maybe add Evan Engram to the list? Probably not. One thing is for certain you cannot add Daniel Jones to that list. I don’t care.)

So now here Dex was with 2 years left on his contract and a new coach in town who he does not know and has no history with who is slowly but surely taking over as GM as well. New defensive coordinator, new system, possible new high draft picks coming into the defensive locker room. Who knows what those relationships would have been like, but it seems that there was a palpable shift in power and direction in the building this off season. And now Dex just had a down year following injury and probably sees the writing on the wall with the upcoming contract talks in two seasons. Will he fit into this new system? Align himself within this new direction? Get back to your top level and lock in the long term deal for the back half of your career?

Or…..do you press the same button that your former teammates did which in every case ended up being the best decision they ever made?

It’s a full new era and the guard is officially changed.

Who we are drafting now:

It has never been more clear to the Oracle that the Giants are selecting Jeremiyah Love at 5. The only reality where that does not happen is if the Titans take him before us. Btw do we have beef with the Titans? I think we have beef with the Titans. I’ve never thought about them once in my life but we’re catching a ton of heat from them. And for what? Because you took our fat meatball of a coach Daboll and a couple of our players? Our perpetually 4-14 players? What are you mad at us because now you’re stuck with our garbage? I don’t get it. Leave our name out of your slut mouths. You guys stink worse than us. Cam Ward is a bust.

Ehem, apologies for that. Anyways this is basically a lock because now we are going to go for one of the two Ohio state defenders at the 10 spot. We might have to trade down* from 10 to guarantee that reality, but there’s no way you can pass on Love at 5 if he’s there. This is an Oracle Guarantee ©️.

Anyways, I would say that I wish Dex the best but honestly I want him to bomb and regress even further and I want our 10 pick to become rookie of the year. There’s nothing else to say but thank you for the memories.

We move.
